Emergent organizations produce innovation from a structured environment; and not from the organization’s structure or hierarchy
If you are an executive who wants to put your organization on the path towards constant innovation, recognizing the barriers that innovation creators face is only part of your challenge. Next, you have to create a platform for addressing these barriers. You need to give your people the tools to create all that innovation. Once you have given them the tools, you need to show them how to use the tools, and even what to use the tools for.
To get an idea of what innovation creators will actually do and how they will produce that innovation, let’s examine four examples of highly innovative groups, and look at how they work. In each of these examples, you will see that even though independent agents are driving the innovation, there is a structured platform in place. There is order to the environment.
