550 Votes counted - 74% of users prefer Lotus Notes !?!

A few weeks ago, I asked people whether they prefered Lotus Notes email, outlook or a web based email tool, such as Gmail, Zimbra, Joyent.

My goal is to get at least 10,000 votes.   So far, out of the first 550 votes, when asked “Which email system would you most like to have at work?”, 74% perfer Lotus Notes, 13.27% perfer Microsoft Outlook and 12.73% Web Based such as Gmail, Zimbra, Joyent.

The poll is not a “scientific” poll.   I used to teach econometrics to undergrads, and took 4 graduate level course in the subject… and after all that time, I am still not 100% sure that anyone has shown me a fool proof definition of what “scientific poll” means.   Roughly, it means your sample was not biased.   The key word there is “roughly”. The problem is that when you don’t know for sure what the real ture distribution is, in the end, you have to make guesses about who to sample. In this case, the survey has received a lot of attention from Lotus Notes blogs.   That might bias the results.

The only way around it is to rely on the law of large numbers.   To quote wikipedia:

This means that the more units of something that are measured, the closer that sample average will be to the average of all of the units — including those that were not measured.

Great Outlook Vs Lotus Notes Survey II.png

If you hate the email system you have at work, or if you love it, and don’t want them to dump something new on you… please contribute to the survey.

If you think that Web 2.0 / Enterprise 2.0 is the future, it’s time to represent!

If you have a blog, I would be very grateful of a link to the survery.   These numbers should get real at around 10,000 votes.    At least I hope that’s the right target number. To the left is a badge, if you want to help promote the survery.

Hi Rod. I think that your poll was very interesting. That is why I posted a link on my own personal web log. The value of that poll was that it was totally free from judgement. Just a simple question.

However, when you suffix this new post title with “74% of Users Prefer Lotus Notes !?!” you do tend to imply that this is not the result you had hoped for or expected. Is this helpful?

Finally, lets not forget that you asked about email AT WORK. As you can see from my details, I use Gmail for play, however I would only ever use Notes at work.

(I do work for IBM but this is a personal post)
